My friend Casey Bisson just announced on his blog that he’s won the Mellon Award for Technology Collaboration for his amazing WPOPAC software. What is amazing about WPOPAC is that it will bring libraries onto the internet for real. Yeah, they’ve been there but they haven’t really progressed in theory or use since the 90’s… that is until Casey came around. Not that other people aren’t doing things as well, but in my personal and admittedly un-librarian-professional opinion, what he is doing is the most interesting and exciting. A lot of WPOPAC is about user experience and collaboration— making socially driven libraries, which will return them to their place of prominence within our communities. But Casey can put all that much better, read his blog.
edit: You can hear Casey explain explain things when he was on National Public Radio.
