I didn't realize the MPAA was stuffing its greedy meathooks into the seafood industry...but then again, I didn't realize Microsoft was also bidding on shellfish investment. This sounds really fishy...aren't there anti-trust laws against this kind of corporate bait-n-switch?

For one, I'm not sure I was comparing iTunes and Vista's HD/Blue-ray DRM. I thought I was comparing each company's willingness to jump on the DRM bandwagon.

Also, I think to say that content protection only focuses on HD and Blue-ray content is incorrect. Anything at all can be content protected, and that results in all sorts of problems (see Gutmann's paper for more details)

I'm not aware of any of the worse parts of Vista's content protection (such as downgrading image quality) being required by the MPAA and I've been looking. Do you have a suggestion as to where I would find that information?

Your comparison with Vista's content protection of new HD and Blu-ray content and Apple's Itunes is not very accurate. If Apple wants to play the HD and Blu-Ray content in the future they will have to implement the same sort of protections that Microsoft has in Vista. The MPAA has much more mussel and strength than Microsoft and defiantly Apple.
