A band called The Morning Benders released a free covers album. I’ve had it on my computer for about two months. I downloaded it after hearing one song, but then forgot about it. Well, I’ve started listening finally and boy, their cover of Roy Orbison’s Crying is just fantastic. Give a listen. Then download the album yourself. There are two ways to do a cover song, the normal way is to make the song sound as closely to the original as possible. This is about interesting as poking yourself in the eye with a bee. The other way is to make the song your own. Lots of people do this, but not nearly enough and often it doesn’t work. But even when it doesn’t work it is still better then the normal way. Happily The Morning Benders got it right on this one!
