I love that each of these sites also has a “www.thetruthaboutourcrappyscam.com” page that tries to debunk the common sense notion that it is what it is. I found one for eBandSearch and GoodGradesNow and they’re identical, except the name of the company is changed from one to the other. Glad I didn’t give them any info.

    Compare http://www.thetruthaboutebandsearch.com/ and http://www.thetruthaboutgoodgradesnow.com/

    Somethings fishy… or perhaps PHishy?

I just started getting the phishing job offers this week. Three or four of them!! The latest one was the e-band one.

I have hidden my contact info on CareerBuilder but they are still coming.

It makes me feel very vulnerable that they can break into or join Careerbuilder. Makes you wonder what other bogus postings exist.

At least the deposed king emails are funny!

I have also gotten the same scam comeon from goodgradesnow. My question is this: Assumming someone did answer their email, what would happen? Would they try to obtain your Social Security Number? Would they try to get you to pay some sort of upfront fee?.
Does anyone know? Has anyone responded and investigated what they try to obtain from you?

  11. Posted June 11, 2007 at 1:46 pm | Permalink

Hank think about it…you are employed by this bogus company Good Grades Now…As an employer in order to pay you through direct deposit the company needs your bank information…Now, this is perfectly fine for a legit company…however, for a scammer there are consequences giving access to your financial information…

I responded to the eBandSearch one, and a telemarketer type person actually called me and asked me a bunch of legitimate interview-type questions. He then sent me an e-mail to fillout an online application. But when i tried to sign in to the website, i kept getting errors. I guess it’s a good thing now that i find out it’s a scam :( I really wanted a job

I removed my resume from Careerbuilder. But, before I did, when I received these fradulent emails for non-existent job offers, I would email them back.

The name that shows up in their inbox (from a hotmail account I use for crap such as this) is “You AreanIdiot”. I then proceed to tell them their websites look about as professional as something my 13 year old nephew would design, and I berate them for trying to pull this crap on unsuspecting people.

I then inform them I’m turning the information over to the AG of IL. I’m having so much fun messing with them, I think I will publish another “resume” on Careerbuilder, just to harass them. Sometimes, in the subject line I write “This sounds like an awesome…”, and then, in the body of the email, I write “SCAM”.

If the English is really poor, I tell them to go brush up on their English/grammatical skills, and try back in a couple of months…maybe I’ll be struck with a case of the “stupids” and take them up on their scheme. I’m sure they hate me, especially when I ask them if they are “complete morons”.

Is there anything I can do to stop them? Thanks!!!

I got an email from World Voice News asking if I wanted to be a reporter with them. Well, maybe it’s not a real job, but: what do you know? Supposing I gave legit info and nothing sensitive, would I ever get anything good out of it? So many of the posts here just mention letters from “scammers” and don’t explain how the recipient knows that, where I can find more, etc. Thanks.
